Democracy beyond elections

Elections are a key way that democracy is expressed in a society, but at Democracy Moves, we firmly believe in expanding our conception of democracy beyond solely the pursuit of electoral campaigns.  Electoral campaigns are necessary for electing leadership, but are necessarily short-lived and can often fall short of building the connections necessary to sustain a movement in the time between elections.

In this Democracy Moves panel discussion, we gathered to share ideas and practices on how to bridge this gap, and build capacity to continue expanding our movements outside of the lead-up to the next election. Activists from around the world shared ideas on how to build democratic cultures, hold elected officials accountable, and motivate young people to engage every single day.
