Registering New Voters in Nigeria
At Democracy Moves, we provide microgrants to member organizations in order to assist them in funding their organizing campaigns around the world. We are proud to present a progress update from Adetunji Adeniran, who organized a voting rights education drive in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria! Below is Adetunji’s words on how micro grant money was used to help further democratic organizing, along with slides detailing these efforts!
“The campaign reached over 100k eligible voters online and offline, especially young people between 18 and 35 years old and we educated them on the need to participate by voting and putting themselves forward to be voted for.

“One of the ways we can shape our choice of leadership and by extension better the future of Nigeria and Nigerians is to ensure grassroot participation in the electioneering process.

“Most people avoid involvement in voting and some only want their voter’s card as a means of identification, but statistics have shown that only a fraction of those that registered participated in the voting exercise on an election day.
