Regional stability in Africa is a critical issue impacting the socio-economic development and security of the continent. This concept notes focuses on the ongoing conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), exploring their causes, consequences, and broader implications for regional stability.
DRC Conflict
The DRC has experienced continuous conflict since the mid-1990s, often referred to as the "African World War" due to the involvement of multiple African nations. The primary conflict is between the government forces and various rebel groups, compounded by ethnic tensions and competition over the country's vast mineral resources.
Sudan Conflict
Sudan is currently facing a human-induced disaster. Close to 14 months since the war between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces broke out, more than 6.6 million were displaced inside Sudan, according to the U.N. refugee agency. Almost 1.8 million others have fled to neighboring countries with More than a third of Sudan’s 48 million people facing catastrophic levels of hunger, according to the United Nations, since harvests and aid deliveries have been disrupted.
