Democracy Moves is a global network of young leaders dedicated to the fight for democracy, human rights, and social justice across continents, with a particular focus on Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the MENA region. Founded on the belief that young people play a central role in creating more inclusive societies, the network connects grassroots movements, organisational , and individuals working toward this shared vision. Democracy Moves is incubated within Restless Development, which empowers young people to drive societal change.

The Global Advisory Committee of Democracy Moves marks an important milestone in the evolution and development of the network. Over the past two years, the committee has shaped the future direction of the network by providing strategic contributions, programmatic guidance, and ensuring adherence to our core values. The term of the first and current Global Advisory Committee is coming to an end.
Democracy Moves is excited to announce the opening of applications for the new Advisory Committee. With new voices and perspectives, this committee will play a key role in guiding the future of the network, ensuring that Democracy Moves continues to be a powerful force in the global fight for democracy, human rights, and social justice.

Purpose of the Advisory Committee
The Global Advisory Committee will serve as a critical body to shape the leadership, structure, and programmatic offerings of the Democracy Moves network. The Advisory Committee will consist of seven members, ideally representing various regions, and will serve a two-year term.
Their roles will focus on advising Democracy Moves on network composition, grassroots growth, program development, and overall strategy.
Proposed Composition and Representation of the Committee
The reconstituted Advisory Committee will include diverse leaders with deep knowledge and expertise in promoting democracy, social justice, and human rights. Each committee member will represent one of the world’s regions and will serve a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal. This diversity ensures that the Democracy Moves network maintains a global perspective to address local and regional challenges.
Scope and Strategic Responsibilities
• Advise Democracy Moves on its medium- and long-term strategy, with a focus on network composition, grassroots growth, and organisational management.
• Ensure that the network's activities adhere to Democracy Moves' core values, mission, and vision.
• Monitor and provide input on the governance structure of Democracy Moves, recommending ways to improve accountability and operational efficiency.
Programmatic Responsibilities
• Guide the development of programs, including conferences, trainings, and social events that foster collaboration among young leaders globally.
• Support Democracy Moves in identifying speakers, themes, and innovative approaches to amplify the network’s impact.
• Provide expert perspectives to enhance training sessions and ensure they meet the needs of network members.
Academic and Scientific Engagement
• Facilitate the exchange of knowledge between practitioners and researchers within the Democracy Moves network.
• Promote the use of best practices, research, and evidence-based approaches to strengthen democracy and social justice initiatives globally.
Mentorship and Leadership
• Act as ambassadors of the Democracy Moves network, promoting the organization and its mission on the global stage.
• Mentor young leaders and organizations within the network, helping them overcome challenges and maximize their impact in their communities.
Requirements and Expectations for Committee Members
• Each member will serve a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
• Committee members are expected to attend a monthly meeting of approximately one hour.
• Be available for occasional consultations with the Democracy Moves coordination team, providing advice and support as needed.
• Leverage their expertise to contribute to the ongoing development of Democracy Moves' strategy and programs.
Application and Selection Process

The Democracy Moves recruitment panel will review the applications and select the most qualified candidates.
A series of interviews will be conducted with shortlisted candidates to choose the 7 new members of the advisory committee.
